The Slow Studio is an ethically-crafted Indian label, conceptualised at the London College of Fashion as an integral part of a practice-based Master’s thesis, exploring the intersection of slow fashion, its relationship with Indian women and their ever-evolving tastes in jewellery.

A celebration of India and her rich jewellery heritage, all our products are made with love in the motherland, paying homage to local crafts and the craftsfolk. We believe in mindful design, production and consumption, owing to which our design language leans towards versatile, timeless yet differentiated interpretations of classics that can be worn in multiple ways, transcending generations and genres alike.

As our beautiful brand name suggests, we like to take things ‘Slow’ - We consciously eschew the ‘Faster, cheaper, more’ philosophy of creating for ‘trends’, in favour of a more relaxed, conscious and sustainable way of doing things, with an emphasis on evergreen capsule pieces - reimagined core collections with a ‘twist’.

Inspired by Indian women - their unique lives, choices and lifestyles, we see our jewels as mediums of self-expression, individuality and self-love.

About the Founder

The Slow Studio is helmed by Asmita Kulshreshtha, an Accessory Design graduate from NIFT (2012), with a specialisation in Jewellery & Precious products.

A keen observer and a sucker for details, Asmita has previously worked in the Design & Innovation teams at Hidesign & Tanishq. During her time at these esteemed, design-forward brands, she dabbled in a wide variety of projects, going above and beyond her expertise in product design. From co-creating and helming a new India-inspired sub-brand at Hidesign, to being a key design and research contributor to Tanishq’s hugely diversified jewellery portfolio, ranging from the minimal and sophisticated ‘Mia’, to the luxe and decadent ‘Zoya’, and everything in between - Asmita has created her fair share of jewellery and then some.

Naturally, all this exposure to the different segments and facets of a fashion brand, led her to develop a taste for the business aspect of fashion. Consequently, in 2015, Asmita went for her research-based MA in ‘Fashion Entrepreneurship & Innovation’, at the prestigious London College of Fashion. For this course, she was awarded the ‘Tara Nirula Graduate Scholarship’ by LCF - An all expenses covered merit-based grant, which is given to one Indian student every year, for their MA at the Fashion Business School, the business studies wing of the London College of Fashion.

The Slow Studio was a chance by-product of Asmita’s distinction-awarded final MA thesis, which explored the ideas and meaning of slow fashion in an Indian context, specifically putting the spotlight on contemporary jewellery and its relationship with the women of India. Upon her return to India, Asmita launched The Slow Studio commercially in late 2018.
