Carnelian:
Colour - Red
No: of Inlaid pieces - 8 (In Single Piece)
Of the many different types of gems used in the parchin kari of the Taj Mahal, the most significant in Mughal culture is the carnelian. Carnelian was a highly-valued semi-precious gemstone used in amulets, inscribed seals and marble inlay. The Prophet Muhammad is said to have worn a silver ring set with carnelian on the little finger of his right hand, using it as a seal. It was believed that any person who wore carnelian would have their desires fulfilled. The stone's fiery, red-orange color was also associated with power and imperial authority. Carnelian was sourced from Baghdad and Yemen in the Mughal era.

Malachite:
Colour - Green
No: of Inlaid pieces - 4 (In Single Piece)
A rare, luxurious gemstone, Malachite was loved for its rich green colour and the naturally occurring bands on the stone. For the Mughals, the lush, verdant green of malachite echoed the abundant vegetation thriving in India’s tropical climate. The green represented new life, wealth and fertility. Malachite was largely mined in the Ural mountain ranges of Russia

Mother of Pearl:
Colour - White
No: of Inlaid pieces - 4 (In Single Piece)
Associated with the divine feminine, Mother of pearl is an iridescent gemstone that was worn for protection, prosperity and emotional healing. It was often used to depict the moon, sacred to the Mughals. MOP was acquired from the Persian Gulf.
